Web design in Santa Coloma de Gramenet comes with a prior question that does not come up as often elsewhere: why would I want a website if I already sell through Instagram and WhatsApp? It is a fair question and it deserves an honest answer, not a brochure.

The city where everything is ten minutes away
Santa Coloma has 123,250 residents in seven square kilometres: 17,607 people per square kilometre, according to the municipality in figures portal at Idescat. It is one of the highest densities in Europe, and that changes everything: your competition is not out in an industrial estate, it is in the next doorway.
The fabric is small business: 5,915 people registered as self-employed, 4,470 of them in services, and 2,030 workplaces with staff on the books. Almost everything is decided on the street, between neighbours who already know you. The trouble starts with the ones who do not.
Here the shops live on the phone
Most businesses that write to us from Santa Coloma are not looking to rebuild a website: they arrive without one. They have an Instagram profile with photos of the stock, a WhatsApp number that answers fast and a half-filled Google listing. And it works, because neighbourhood word of mouth is powerful.
So the argument is not «you need a website because everyone has one». It is that there are four things a profile does not do, and those four are the ones that cost money when they are missing.

The four things a social profile does not do
Show up to people who do not follow you
On Instagram you are found by people who already know you or who happened to scroll past. On Google you are found by someone searching for what you sell right now who does not know your name. Two different audiences, and the second one is the one that grows.
Answer without you answering
Opening hours, address, prices or ranges, payment methods, whether you deliver. Every one of those repeated questions by message is an afternoon of your week. Written on a page, it answers itself.
Stay put
A post drops down the feed in two days. A page stays there, can be linked from the Google listing, from the sign in the window or in a message, and keeps working next month.
Belong to you
The profile lives on a platform that can change the rules, and an account can be blocked or impersonated. INCIBE, the Spanish cybersecurity institute, publishes guidance on protecting company profiles, and it is worth a read. The website, by contrast, sits on your own domain and nobody can shut it down.
What a website here needs
It does not need to be a big project. It needs these things to be there and to be visible on a phone, which is where it will always be opened.
- What you sell, on the first screen, in the words people actually use, not in a slogan.
- Where you are and when you open, as text and not inside an image.
- A WhatsApp button that opens a chat with the business number and the message already started.
- Prices or ranges if your trade allows it; if not, at least say what it starts from and what that includes.
- Real photos, yours, not stock. How to prepare them is in photos for your website.
And it has to load fast on mobile data. Google indexes the mobile version of pages, not the desktop one, and it says so in its developer documentation. In a city where hardly anyone will open your site on a computer, that is not a technical detail.

And what you do not need
Just as important as the list above. You do not need an online shop if you sell over the counter and the order closes by message: it costs more to maintain than to build. You do not need a blog from day one, which without time to write it becomes a section with two entries from two years ago. And you do not need an app: nobody installs the app of the shop downstairs. A page that loads fast and answers what people ask on WhatsApp will serve you for a long while.
A third were born abroad: which language do I write in?
Of those 123,250 neighbours, 39,598 were born outside Spain. Almost one in three. The temptation is to translate the site into four languages, and that is almost always an expensive mistake: what works is writing in clear, short Spanish, adding Catalan if your customers ask for it, and using sentences that land first time even when Spanish is not the language spoken at home.
Translating makes sense when you have a specific, sizeable audience, not just in case. And a well-written site in one language always beats four half-finished versions.
The next-doorway test
In a city this dense the comparison is literal. Take your phone, open your profile or your site and put it next to the closest similar business. Look at three things: which one says what it sells first, which one gives the opening hours without hunting, and which one lets you write to them without leaving the screen. Whoever wins those three gets the call, and it has nothing to do with pretty design.

The website and the listing go together
The Google listing is what puts you on the map when somebody searches nearby; the website is what convinces them once they arrive. If you can only deal with one thing this month, sort the listing first: how to do it is in the Google Business listing guide. And if what you want is to understand what social media does and does not do, that is in social media for local businesses.

What a website in Santa Coloma de Gramenet costs
Our prices are published, VAT on top and with no lock-in, and they include the domain, the hosting, the email and the maintenance:
- Tu Landing, 100 € a month: one page that explains what you do and collects enquiries. For a business that today only has Instagram, it is usually enough to start.
- Tu Web, 200 € a month: up to ten pages, two mailboxes and one article a month so it does not go stale.
- Presence plans, from 400 € a month: all of the above plus content, the Google listing and answered reviews, at 400, 750 and 1,500 €.
They are all on our pricing page. There is no upfront payment: we build the site and it is paid through the monthly fee, which for a small business is the difference between doing it and leaving it for next year.
What we would do in the first week
If you turned up today with an Instagram profile and nothing else, this is the order. First, one page saying what you sell, where you are, when you open and how to message you. Second, the Google listing filled in with your own photos. Third, the website link in the profile bio and on the listing, so everything points to the same place. With that, most businesses here notice the difference before the month is out.
We work from Palamós, with businesses across the Barcelona area
We are in Palamós and we look after websites for businesses across the province of Girona and the metropolitan area. The first meeting can be a video call or at your premises, whichever suits; what does not change is that the site is built with your photos and your words. Tell us what you sell and we will tell you which page you actually need, which is often smaller than you think.
