SEO in Badalona: how the map is won neighbourhood by neighbourhood

In a city of 230,000 people and ten neighbourhoods that behave like ten towns, ranking "in Badalona" means nothing. You rank in Llefià or you do not rank.

Badalona has 230,642 residents in 21.18 km², according to the Idescat municipal figures: over 10,800 people per square kilometre spread across a long, narrow city running from the Besòs river to Montgat. That shape completely changes how SEO in Badalona works: here you do not compete with the whole city, you compete with whatever sits ten minutes' walk from the person searching.

The map decides, and it shifts street by street

In any local service search, the first thing to appear is not a website: it is the map block with three businesses. Google decides who to show by blending relevance, distance and prominence, and in a city this elongated distance wreaks havoc: the same business can rank first for someone searching from Sant Roc and not appear at all for someone searching from Canyadó, four kilometres away.

Hence the first practical conclusion: the goal is not "ranking first in Badalona". It is appearing on the map within the radius of people who can actually reach your door. And that is worked through the listing, the website and the reviews, not through a trick.

Three searches that look the same and are not

  • "your service + badalona". Made by people who are elsewhere, often from work in Barcelona, deciding for later. Here you compete with the entire city and the best-built sites and listings win.
  • "your service near me". Made by someone already out in the street. Distance rules, along with the state of your listing: hours, photos, recent reviews.
  • "your service + your neighbourhood". Less volume, far more intent. Llefià, La Salut, Sant Roc, Bufalà, Canyadó, Montigalà or Centre are not interchangeable, and whoever types the neighbourhood name is usually one step from calling.

Most businesses work only the first one, which is the hardest, and skip the other two, which are the ones that make the phone ring.

What actually moves the map

When we review listings for businesses in the area, the same things are missing almost every time, and none of them are exotic.

  • The right primary category. It is the biggest lever and the one most people get wrong by picking the most generic option.
  • Services and products filled in with the words customers use, not the trade's own jargon.
  • Consistent details across listing, website and directories: same name, same address, same phone. When they do not match, both lose strength; we cover it in our guide to the Google Business Profile.
  • Reviews coming in every month and replies to all of them, good and bad. How to ask without breaking the rules is in how to get Google reviews.
  • Activity: new photos, posts, special hours for August and holidays. A frozen listing says exactly what it says.

And what moves the website

The listing gets you on the map; the website holds up everything else and wins the searches beyond your immediate radius. Three things, in order of payoff:

  • One page per service, using the words people actually type. If you do five things and they all live on one page, that page is not the best answer for any of them.
  • Area pages only when you have something to say: old walk-up buildings on certain streets, impossible parking at certain hours, jobs already done nearby. Without that, one solid page beats them.
  • Articles answering what people ask on the phone: how much, how long, what paperwork. That is what brings in people who do not know you yet.

And underneath it all, the boring part: loading fast on mobile, because almost all local traffic here arrives from the street or the metro. If you have doubts, the test is in why your website is slow on mobile.

The big neighbour: when Barcelona creeps into your results

Badalona borders Sant Adrià and, past that, Barcelona. For anyone searching from the boundary, results mix businesses from both municipalities, and plenty of Barcelona sites have years of work behind them.

The answer that works is not competing for "Barcelona": it is making crystal clear where you are and why you are closer to hand. Address written in text, neighbourhood named, recognisable landmarks and real opening hours. That is the ground where a local business wins, and it is the exact opposite of writing "metropolitan area" and waiting.

What to check every month

Without measurement, SEO is a feeling. The minimum, and it is free to see:

  • Search Console queries: what people type before landing on your site. Google explains how to read it in its Search Console help. If nearly all of them carry your business name, you are not capturing new demand yet.
  • Listing actions: calls, directions and website clicks, which are what turn into customers.
  • Rankings by neighbourhood, not the city "average" position, which means nothing.
  • New reviews and response times.

Those four numbers decide what gets reinforced next month. If you want to understand how the search engine works before arguing about reports, Google explains it in how Search works.

How long this takes

The listing side moves within weeks if it was abandoned or badly categorised: we start there because it shows first. The website side is slower: between the fourth and eighth month of steady work is when calls start coming from people who did not know you. We go into detail in how long SEO takes to work.

Anyone promising you the top spot in a month is selling something else. So is anyone charging to "rank you across Catalonia" when your business lives off three neighbourhoods.

What SEO costs in Badalona

Our prices are published and they are the same here as anywhere else:

  • Basic presence, €400 a month: hosting, website and email migration, 10 mailboxes, 3 articles a month, 3 Google listing posts, every review answered and GEO positioning.
  • Mid presence, €750 a month: up to 5 articles and 5 posts, plus campaigns.
  • Advanced presence, €1,500 a month: 7 and 7, campaigns and 2 social posts.

VAT excluded, no lock-in and migration included. If all you need is the website, a landing is €100 a month and a site with up to ten subpages €200. SEO as ongoing work lives inside those plans, not as a loose add-on nobody reviews.

We work from Palamós across the Barcelona area

Our office is in Palamós and we run businesses across the province of Barcelona. SEO work —researching searches, writing, fixing the site, maintaining the listing and measuring— works just as well remotely, which is why small changes get done the same day. We come in person when it adds something: the first meeting and the day we photograph the premises, which is what lifts a listing most.

The two-minute check

Take your phone, step outside and search for your service plus your neighbourhood in incognito mode. See who appears on the map and where you stand. Repeat it a kilometre away and compare: if it changes a lot, you now know why some days bring work and others do not.

Message us on WhatsApp with your business name and we will tell you what we see in your listing and your site, no strings attached and the same day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about SEO in Badalona

How much does SEO cost in Badalona?+

It sits inside our published plans: from €400 a month excluding VAT, with hosting, migration, 3 monthly articles, 3 Google listing posts, every review answered and GEO positioning. The €750 and €1,500 plans increase content and add campaigns. No lock-in and migration included.

How long before results show?+

The Google listing moves within weeks when it was abandoned or badly categorised. The website side takes longer: between the fourth and eighth month of steady work you start seeing calls from people who did not know you. Anyone promising the top spot in a month is selling something else.

Is ranking for "Badalona" useful if my customers come from one neighbourhood?+

It is useful, but it is not the priority. City-name searches are largely made by people who are elsewhere, often from work in Barcelona. The ones that make the phone ring day to day are "near me" and "service + neighbourhood", and those are won with the listing, the reviews and pages that say where you really are.

Do I need a page for every neighbourhood in Badalona?+

Only if you have something real to say about each area: jobs done there, particularities of the buildings, travel times. Ten filler pages with the neighbourhood name swapped in do harm, because Google spots the pattern and it drags the rest of the site.

Can I compete with Barcelona businesses?+

Within your radius, yes, and with an advantage: distance works in your favour. What does not pay off is fighting for generic Barcelona searches against sites with years of work behind them. It is more profitable to own your city and your neighbourhoods, then expand into bordering areas like Sant Adrià or Montgat.

Which numbers should I check every month?+

Four: Search Console queries (if nearly all carry your name, you are not capturing new demand), listing actions (calls, directions, website clicks), rankings by neighbourhood rather than a city average, and new reviews with their response time.
